Fact
A keyword search for “Rawalpindi stadium” and “damage” on Google led us to multiple reports showing the aftermath of an alleged drone strike that hit the stadium on May 8, 2025. However, none of these visuals showed the alleged damage inside the complex as seen in the viral photo.
On carefully analysing the viral photo, we found its layout to be different from one seen in the actual images of the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Such images can be seen here, here and here.
We then checked the alleged photo from the Rawalpindi Stadium on multiple AI detection tools which concluded a high probability of the media being created using Artificial Intelligence. Hive Moderation, for instance, found a 86.2% likelihood of the photo containing AI generated or deepfake content.
