A video circulating on social media claims to show citizens in Venezuela tearing down a poster of President Nicolas Maduro after he was captured by the US forces.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral clip led to an X post by @monitoreamos, dated July 30, 2024. Sharing the same footage, the post stated: “Maduro banner torn down at Base Aragua, in protest against the June 28th fraud.” Another post on X from July 2024 also carried the identical video, confirming that it predates the recent developments in the US.

The same footage was additionally shared on Instagram by the handle @enesfreedom on July 30, 2024.
Further checks showed that the video was uploaded on Newsflare, where it was described as showing protesters pulling down a billboard of President Nicolás Maduro amid election-related outrage in Venezuela. According to the platform, the video was filmed on July 29, 2024.
Therefore, the footage has been available online since July 2024and has no connection to any recent or alleged capture of President Nicolas Maduro by US forces.
