Fact Check
PM Narendra Modi has announced a Diwali cash gift worth ₹10,000 for all citizens.
The viral video is misleading and fabricated. Each part of the video is either taken out of context or digitally manipulated. The government has not made any such announcement.
Ahead of Diwali next week, an alleged video report has gone viral, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a new government scheme giving ₹10,000 to every Indian citizen for the festival. The three-part video purportedly shows news anchors reporting a “Diwali bonanza,” followed by a clip of PM Modi saying, “The money that is being given to you is your right. No one can ever take it away from you”, and a clip of journalist Sudhir Chaudhary explaining how citizens could claim the cash.

A Google search using the keywords “PM Modi 10,000 Diwali gift” did not return any credible news reports or official announcements from the central government regarding such a scheme.
Moreover, the video itself raised suspicions: the opening frames appear to be from a TV9 report, while the final snippet shows anchor Sudhir Chaudhary, who is currently with DD News, suggesting that the footage had been spliced together.

🔹 Additionally, the video encourages users to visit a website called “smtai.net”, which hosts unverified content on topics such as phones, finance, and legal matters. In contrast, official government websites in India typically use the “.gov.in” domain.
A check on Scam Detector rated the site 19.9/100, labeling it as “New, Suspicious, Dubious”, indicating it is potentially unreliable and a probable phishing attempt.

The claim that PM Modi announced a ₹10,000 cash gift for Diwali is false. The video is a mix of repurposed content and AI-manipulated footage.
Q1. Did the government announce a Diwali cash gift for citizens?
No. There is no official announcement of a ₹10,000 Diwali gift scheme by the Government of India.
Q2. What was PM Modi actually referring to in the viral clip?
The statement was about PM-KISAN, a farmer welfare program from 2019, not any festival-related cash gift.
Q3. How can you spot deepfake videos?
Look for unnatural facial movements, blurry mouth areas, or lip-sync issues. AI detection tools can confirm manipulation.
