A Google Lens search on the viral photo led us to an X post by @TheSouthfirst, dated April 26, 2024. Carrying the same image, it stated, “Tensions prevailed in MM Hills Gram Panchayat limits as the dismayed voters not only damaged EVMs but also set them on fire in Hanur taluka.”

Featuring the same image, a report by Deccan Herald from April 26, 2024, stated, “Voting process came to a halt as the residents of Indiganatha village in Hanur taluk, Chamarajanagar district, boycotted the polls, expressed opposition by pelting stones and damaged Electronic Voting Machines, at the booth coming under Mahadeshwara Gram Panchayat limits…”

The photo was captioned, “Electronic voting machines and furniture damaged in a stone pelting incident, in Hanur taluk, Chamarajanagar district.”

In a press briefing on May 14, 2025, Belgaum SP Dr. Bhimashankar Guleda denied the incident, and clarified that it was “fake news.” He added that Gokak CPI Suresh RB visited Col Qureshi’s father-in-law’s home in Konnur village. They have been provided security, and asked to avoid meeting the public unnecessarily.
Another X user claimed that Wg Cdr Vyomika Singh’s house was vandalised by the members of Bajrang Dal. Newschecker, however, found that the photo used to allege the same was actually related to an old incident from the UK’s Newark.
Hence, the viral posts alleging that Col Sofiya Qureshi’s home in Karnataka was attacked by RSS members were found to be false.
