Survivor Of Ahmedabad Plane Crash Arrested? No, Fake Claim Goes Viral

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the lone survivor of the London-bound Air India flight that crashed soon after takeoff in Ahmedabad, has been arrested on suspicion of his involvement in the incident.

A keyword search for “Vishwash Kumar Ramesh,” and “arrested” on Google did not yield any credible reports stating that the passenger has been arrested for “his involvement in the plane crash,” as widely alleged. 

We then scanned through the official X handles of the DGP Gujarat,  Gujarat Police, and Ahmedabad Police, which did not carry any such information about his alleged arrest either.

Newschecker then reached out to Jaipal Singh Rathore, Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector-2, Ahmedabad City,  who clarified that Ramesh has not been arrested in any case, further confirming that the viral claim is fabricated. 

The Lone Survivor Of The Air India Plane Crash

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, is a British national of Indian origin who was seated in 11A of the ill-fated Air India flight A171 that crashed into the BJ Medical Hospital in Ahmedabad shortly after taking off from the airport on June 12, 2025. He was reportedly in India for a few days to visit his family and was going back to the UK along with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh. 

“The place where I landed was low… I took off the seat belt and for a moment, I was scared for my life. But I was near ground level, so I tried to get out…I can’t believe how I survived. I thought I would die. People died in front of my eyes,” he told the media. Prime Minister Modi also visited him at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad where he was admitted after surviving the crash. Ramesh sustained impact injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet.

Hence, the viral claim that the sole survivor of the Ahmedabad plane crash has been arrested was found to be fabricated.
