Visuals of Delhi-Srinagar stretch of NH 44.
Video from China shared in false context.
A video showing an aerial view of an arch bridge erected in a mountainous terrain is being widely shared on social media platforms, with users claiming it to show the Delhi-Srinagar stretch of National Highway(NH) 44. Newschecker, however, found the video to be from China.
Such posts can be seen here and here.
NH 44 is the longest national highway in India, stretching for a whopping 3,745 kilometers. It connects Srinagar in the northern tip of Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari at the southernmost point of India. The highway traverses a total of 11 Indian states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
A reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to multiple social media posts featuring the same video to show the Dafaqu Bridge in China’s Guizhou.
We also found an X post by People’s Daily (@PDChinese), dated October 22, 2024. Carrying visuals similar to that seen in the viral clip it stated, “…Dafaqu Bridge is located in Zunyi City, Guizhou Province. The bridge is 1,427 meters long, with a main span of 410 meters and a width of 33 meters…(translated from Chinese via Google). “
On comparing the images shared by X post by People’s Daily with the keyframes of the viral video, we could conclude that they showed the same bridge.
Carrying multiple images of the same bridge, a report by Xinhua, dated February 3, 2023, stated that it is a “1,427-meter bridge, with a main span of 410 meters, is one of the key projects along the Renhuai-Zunyi expressway.”
Stock image website Alamy, which listed multiple images of the arch-bridge seen in the viral clip, also identified it to be the Dafaqu Grand Bridge in Zunyi City of China’s Guizhou Province. The same can be seen here, here and here.
