Several social media users are posting a video showing some men pulling out a woman who fell into a dirty roadside drain, claiming that the incident happened in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, while mocking the infrastructure in the area.
According to the translation of one Hindi tweet, “This is not a river, it is a road in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh.
The archived version of the tweet can be seen here.
Fact check/Verification
We ran a reverse image search of key frames of the video, leading us to a Twitter user, @SBegumpur, who posted a longer version of the viral video. He had tagged several officials, while drawing attention to the fact that the Barwala road in Begumpur Ward 33 in Rohini, northwest Delhi, has become an accident-prone site. The user wrote about the need for cleaning the drains and filling in the potholes.
We noticed that a building was visible at the end of this video, so we ran a search for hospitals located in Begumpur, northwest Delhi. This led us to a hospital named “Hira’s Multi Specialty Hospital”, pictures of which were available on Google Maps, matched the building seen in the viral video.
While the comparison above makes it clear the viral video is from Begumpur in northwest Delhi, we also found out that @SBegumpur has posted more videos from this area, highlighting its poor condition and demanding the administration’s attention, in August 2022.
Conclusion
The viral video of a woman stuck in a dirty roadside drain is not from Prayagraj,
Uttar Pradesh, as being claimed, but from Begumpur in northwest Delhi.
Result: False
