Did Trump Criticise PM Modi Over Vandalism Targeting Christmas Celebrations Across India?

Amid instances of vandalism targeting Christmas celebrations and decorations in several parts of India by Hindutva outfits, a video has surfaced online claiming that US President Donald Trump criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue. 

In the clip, Trump allegedly calls Modi a “chameleon” and accuses him of hypocrisy for attending a Christmas service at a Delhi cathedral “without stopping the terrorist behavior of your supporters.” 

Newschecker also received the video on its WhatsApp tipline (+91-9999499044), requesting it to be fact-checked.

Evidence

No Credible Reports or Official Statements

A keyword search using terms such as Donald Trump, Narendra Modi, India, and Christmas yielded no credible news reports indicating that the US President criticised Indian authorities over Christmas-related vandalism.

Additionally, a review of Donald Trump’s official social media handles and public statements showed no such remarks.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral clip led to a YouTube video by White House,  dated January 30, 2025, showing the US President addressing the press following an aviation incident, filmed in the same setting and attire as seen in the viral video.

Another White House video, dated August 11, 2025, also features President Trump in an identical background and outfit. However, neither video contains any remarks related to India, Christmas celebrations, or Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Visual Anomalies Indicate AI Manipulation

On closely analysing the viral clip, several inconsistencies were observed:

• Lip movements appeared forced
• The lower jaw area looked smudged and blurry
• The face appeared uniformly blurred, while the hair looked unnaturally matted
• The natural breathers and pauses were largely absent from the audio. 

These are commonly observed indicators of AI-generated or deepfake videos.

AI-Detection Tools Flag the Video as Fake

The video was tested on multiple AI detection platforms:

• Detection platform Deepware Scanner found the video to be “suspicious.”
• A Hive Moderation analysis showed a 99.8% likelihood of the media containing AI-generated or deepfake content. 
• Four out of six detectors of Deepfake-o-meter concluded a high probability of audio being generated.
• Resemble.ai identified the audio as fake.
• Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector flagged the audio as “likely deepfake.” 
• Aurigin.in also confirmed the audio was AI-generated.
