From the new President of India taking charge to allegations of Smriti Irani’s daughter running an illegal bar in Goa, this past week saw much happening in terms of news. And where there is news, there is also misinformation. While several users were quick to share a video showing the PM Modi seemingly ignoring the outgoing President, several others fell victim to a fake social media post, claiming to show the Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde’s past avatar as an auto driver. All that and much more, here is a list of the top five misinformation that was fact checked by Newschecker this week:

Did PM Modi Ignore Former President Kovind At Farewell Ceremony? No, Viral Clip Shared Out Of Context

A video from the farewell ceremony of Ram Nath Kovind is being widely shared online to show the former President greeting PM Modi with folded hands, only to be ignored by the Prime Minister, who appears to be focused at the cameras photographing the moment. We found that the viral claim about PM Modi ignoring former President Kovind at the latter’s farewell ceremony is false. A part of a longer video has been shared out of context to spread a false narrative. Read more here.

Beef & Pork Served At Cafe Allegedly Run By Smriti Irani’s Daughter? Know Truth About Viral Menu Card

An image of a menu card is going viral claiming to show that beef and pork dishes are served at Silly Souls Cafe and Bar, which is allegedly operated by Union Minister Smriti Irani’s daughter Zoish Irani. We found that the viral image of the food menu card does not belong to the cafe which is allegedly run by Smriti Irani’s daughter, but to the Upper Deck restaurant at Radisson Blu Resort in Goa. Amidst Reports Of Kashmiri separatist Yasin Malik’s Hospitalisation, Old Image Shared As Recent

A photograph of Kashmiri separatist Yasin Malik allegedly from Delhi’s RML hospital is going viral claiming to show recent condition of Malik who is serving life sentence in cases including terror funding. We found that while the claim of Yasin Malik being admitted to the hospital is true, the image that is being widely shared as recent is old and can be traced back at least to 2018. Read more here.

Man Seen In Front Of Auto In Viral Photo Is Not Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde

A photograph featuring a bearded man standing in front of a decorated auto rickshaw is going viral on social media platforms. Those who shared the photo claim that it is an old photo of incumbent Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde. Newschecker found the claim to be untrue. Though he did work as an auto driver, the man seen in the photo is not Shinde. Read more here.

Viral Image Of A Broken Road Is Not From India But From Thailand

An image showing a broken section of the road having separated from the path it was laid out on is currently going viral. Those sharing the image claim it to be from somewhere in India. It appears as though a section of the road was removed and placed next to it. Newschecker found these claims to be untrue. Read more here.
