Bangladesh Fact Checker Lead
Dil Afrose Jahan is an award-winning freelance journalist based in Bangladesh. She was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1993 and worked as a freelance investigative journalist for SRF, among other international news media. She writes about human rights, migration, labour rights, human trafficking, crisis and conflict, religious minorities and climate change. Jahan began her career in 2012 with the Daily Shokaler Khabor (Bangla News Daily). She then worked for the television station Deepto TV as well as for the English daily Dhaka Tribune. Afrose is a former Early Childhood Development” fellow International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), IJAsia Fellow of Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN), and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) digital security scholar.

Zakariya has an experience of working for Magazines, Newspapers and News Portals. Before joining Newschecker, he was working with Network18’s Urdu channel. Zakariya completed his post-graduation from Lucknow University.

Shaminder started off his career as a freelance journalist for a consulting and research firm. He has been a Political Strategist and Media Manager. Before joining Newschecker, he worked with various reputed media agencies like Daily Post India, PTC News.

Seeking facts is Prathmesh’s priority before publishing any story. He has worked for India News, Apna Gujarat, and Opera News. A graduate in BCA, Prathmesh is committed to fact-check all the misinformation he comes across.

The reason why he chose to be a part of the Newschecker team lies somewhere between his passion and desire to surface the truth. The inception of social networking sites, misleading information, and tilted facts worry him. So, here he is ready to debunk any such fake story or rumor.
Editor and Operations Manager
Believing in the notion of ‘Live And Let Live’, Preeti is a Journalist who felt the responsibility to counter and check misinformation and prevent people from falling for propaganda, hoaxes, and fake information. She is working in Media since 2010 and holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication.
Rajneil began his career in Google with Adwords Content Operations, moved to sales and then to Public Policy and Government Affairs. During his tenure at Google, he got a first-person view of content policy, community guidelines, product policy, and other public policy issues. Post his stint at Google, he founded a technology company before establishing Newschecker. He calls himself a product of the internet and mobile era and is determined to combat disinformation online. He looks after the day to day affairs and management of the organisation and does not participate in the editorial decisions of Newschecker.
English Fact Checking Trainee
Preeksha is a journalism graduate interested in exploring and working on the phenomenon of fake news globally. She desires to work on compelling stories that employ digital journalism to bring forth narratives that matter. She is also a budding researcher studying the COVID-19 infodemic as a research fellow with the Institute of Economic Growth.
Vijayalakshmi leads our Tamil team. She’s worked in the media industry for more than eight years. This includes her work as a senior correspondent for Times Now before joining Newschecker. She turned to fact-checking to create awareness around misinformation through her writing.

Pragya has completed her masters in Mass Communication, and has been doing content writing for the last four years. Due to bias and incomplete facts in mainstream media, she decided to become a fact-checker.
Malayalam Fact Cheker
Sabloo Thomas has worked as a special correspondent with the Deccan Chronicle from 2011 to December 2019. Post Deccan Chronicle, he freelanced for various websites and worked in the capacity of a translator as well (English to Malayalam and Malayalam to English). He’s also worked with the New Indian Express as a reporter, senior reporter, and principal correspondent. He joined Express in 2001.

Ruby leads editorial, operations and initiatives at Newschecker. In her former avatar at New Delhi Television (NDTV), India’s leading national news network, she was a news anchor, supervising producer and senior output editor. Her over a decade-long career encompasses ground-breaking reportage from conflict zones and reporting on terror incidents, election campaigns, and gender issues. Ruby is an Emmy-nominated producer and has handled both local and international assignments, including the coverage of Arab Spring in 2011, the US Presidential elections in 2016, and ground reportage on the Kashmir issue since 2009.
English Fact Checker
Ujwala has worked with EFE, a Spanish News Agency where she covered feature stories on politics, culture and day to day life. She has worked as an independent podcaster creating and hosting audio news episodes under the banner, On Record Podcast. She is part of Newschecker’s English team, where she spots and debunks all kinds of false information, making rounds on the internet. She has completed her journalism course at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
