Verification

Since the abrogation of article 370, many contradicting claims have been pouring in about the situation in the valley. Social Media is abuzz with posts on Kashmiris being ill-treated by the Indian Government.

Newschecker also received a video, where a young man can be seen forcefully shouting Hindustan Zindabad; he seems to be sitting inside an army van and is being brutally hit by one of the army personnel.

On a quest to verify the authenticity of this video, we began our research by searching for the video on other social media platforms. We found a similar video on YouTube which was uploaded in 2017.

It was clear that this video has no connection with the abrogation of article 370 as it predates the same. During our research we came across another YouTube post with a caption ‘A stone pelter of Kashmir, caught by our Army men’. The video was also uploaded in 2017.

Though Newschecker could not find the origin of this video, we came across a news report from India.com which says that the stone pelters of Kashmir were caught & beaten by the Indian army, though we couldn’t find any authentic video along with the news. However, we did find a video tweeted on 15 April, 2017 by journalist Ahmer Khan.

It was now clear that the video which is being shared in the name of atrocities on Kashmiri youth is 2 years old and has no connection with the abrogation of Article 370 and its aftermath.
