Did Kerala Hold India’s Largest Pro-Palestine Rally Recently? Here’s What We Found

A video showing a massive gathering chanting pro-Palestine slogans is being shared on social media platforms, with users claiming it to be from a recent rally in Kerala against the Israeli authorities. 

The 20-second-long-footage has been shared on X and Facebook. Newschecker, however, found the video to be old.

Fact Check/Verification

On carefully analysing the viral clip, we noticed text overlay stating “October 2023”, “Indian Union Muslim League” and “Human Rights Rally” at the bottom of the screen, and “Kozhikode” on the top right. 

Taking a clue, we looked up keywords “Indian Union Muslim League”,  “Human Rights Rally”, “Kozhikode” and “Palestine” on Google which yielded a Facebook post by @IUMLVaniyambadi, dated October 27, 2023, carrying a longer version of the viral clip.

The clearer version of the video carried a text overlay clarifying that the rally was organised on October 26, 2023 at Kozhikode beach. 

Several other social media posts from October 2023, such as this and this, carried the same video.  

A Facebook post by the Indian Union Muslim League – Kerala State (@iumlkeralastate), dated October 27, 2023,  also featured a RT report carrying a snippet from the viral video. 

The page also featured a live streaming of the pro-Palestine rally organised on October 26, 2023.

A Facebook post by India Today, dated October 26, 2023,  also featured visuals from the same rally, stating, “Indian Union Muslim League organised a massive human rights rally in solidarity with Palestine, drawing an enormous crowd at Kozhikode Beach.”

Multiple news outlets such as this, this and this reported on the pro-Palestine rally in Kerala’s Kozhikode in October 2023.

Moreover, we did not find any recent reports on a large-scale pro-Palestine rally in Kerala.

Conclusion

Hence, we find that an old video showing a pro-Palestine rally in Kerala has been shared as recent.
