A video showing PM Modi addressing the NDA parliamentary meeting in June 2024 has been manipulated using AI tech to make false claims.

A 21-second-long-video allegedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi terming cows as the “best animal for sacrifice” while addressing a gathering of parliamentarians, surfaced online amid Bakrid celebrations across the country. Newschecker, however, found the video to be manipulated.

In the video, PM Modi is purportedly heard saying, “There are many animals that can be sacrificed. But cows are the best, as by sacrificing cows we get the maximum reward.” The video further shows the attendees applauding the Prime Minister for the remark.

On carefully analysing the viral clip, we noticed that the Prime Minister’s lip movements did not match with the audio in most frames. His jaw area appeared to have been blurred/smudged. The pronunciation of certain words as well as the accent of the voice heard in the viral clip, also raised our doubts.

We found a video uploaded on the official YouTube channel of Narendra Modi on June 7, 2024, where he can be seen wearing the same attire, and carries identical background as seen in the viral clip.

“Shri Narendra Modi at the Parliamentary meet said that he would strive to ensure unanimity in all decisions of his next government and asserted that the NDA is an organic alliance committed to the principle of ‘nation first’… Shri Narendra Modi also added that the NDA government in the next 10 years will focus on good governance, development, quality of life and minimum interference in the lives of common citizens,” its description stated.

We skimmed through the Prime Minister’s address but did not find any mention of cow sacrifice, as alleged in the viral clip.

We were able to spot the exact visuals seen in the viral clip around 8:20 minutes in the YouTube video. The Prime Minister does not mention anything about animal slaughter in these frames as well.
