Israel Shows Old Video To Claim Iranian Attack On Civilians

A video, showing a barrage of missiles raining down over a vast city scape, is going viral amid the recent escalations in the Middle East. Several social media users who shared the clip claimed that it showed Iran’s recent missile attack on civilians in Israel. Newschecker, however, found the clip to be from before the recent escalation. 

The official X account of the Israel Defence Force also shared a snippet of the same clip, along with other visuals, on June 14, 2025, stating, “RAW FOOTAGE: Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward Israel in the past hours. The IDF cannot, and will not, allow Iran to attack our civilians.”

A longer version of the same footage was shared by many other users on X, as can be seen below.

Fact Check/Verification

We looked up the keyframes of the viral clip on Yandex which led us to an X post by @IRIran_Military, a ‘commentary account’ for updates on the Iranian Armed Forces, dated October 10, 2024. It featured the same video of an air attack, confirming that it is old and unrelated to the recent conflict between Israel and Iran. 

A YouTube post by @livefromthecockpit, dated October 3, 2024, featured the same video. “Tel Aviv video shows moment of Iranian missile attack…,” its title stated.

We also found that the viral clip, allegedly showing Iran’s recent missile attack on Israel, was also shared on Facebook by user @esmeralda.redzic.1 on October 2, 2024.

Notably, the current military escalation between the Middle East nations started on June 13, 2025, when the Israeli forces launched massive airstrikes on the Iranian nuclear and military facilities, prompting retaliation from Tehran. The video, however, has been available online since at least October 2024, and hence it does not depict Iran’s recent attack on Israel.

However, we were not independently able to verify other details of the video.

Conclusion

Hence, we find that the viral clip, claiming to show Iran’s attack on civilians in Israel, is not linked to the recent conflict between Israel and Iran, and has been available online since at least October 2024.
