The deceased was a Hindu.

An alleged CCTV footage of a purported murder in a library in Rajasthan has surfaced on social media, with user claiming that a Muslim man was lynched by Hindus after he refused to play Holi. 

Multiple social media users shared the one-minute-long-video giving a communal angle to the incident. Newschecker, however, found the claim to be untrue.

Fact Check/Verification

A Google lens search on the keyframes of the viral video led us to a report by Navbharat Times, dated March 13, 2025. Carrying a screengrab from the video, the report elaborated that a student ‘Hansraj’, who was studying at a library at Ralawas village of Rajasthan’s of Dausa, died in a fight over after rejecting Holi colours. 

The footage was also shared in a report by NDTV Rajasthan, corroborating that a student, Hansraj, was beaten to death for refusing to apply colour in Ralawas village under Ramgarh Pachwara police station area of ​​Dausa district of Rajasthan.

An Indian Express report on the incident quoted SHO of Dausa’s Ramgarh Pachwara police station Ramsharan Gurjar as saying,“As per the CCTV footage, there was an issue over applying of colours on the now deceased Hansraj Meena — who was preparing for patwari (revenue officer) exams — in the local library. We lodged an FIR for murder and have arrested one of the three accused, Bablu Meena.” 

Dinesh Agarwal, Additional SP (Lalsot) reportedly said, “We have seen the footage where it can be seen that three persons are assaulting him. They have been identified as Ashok, Kalu and Bablu.”

Newschecker reached out to Ramgarh Pachwara Police Station SHO Ramsharan Gurjar who dismissed the claim, and confirmed that the victim was not a Muslim. He further added that both the accused and the victim are from the Meena community, and belonged to the same village.

Conclusion

Hence, the viral communal claim that a Muslim man was killed by Hindus in Rajasthan for refusing to play Holi was found to be false.
