Just days to go for Uttar Pradesh Elections
Political parties have fielded their star campaigners in the state ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in February 2022.
While former CM Akhilesh Yadav is leading the Samajwadi Party’s election campaign, Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is making headlines for campaigning in Moradabad, which happens to be the place where her In-laws hail from.
The BJP ruled poll-bound state has also seen top leaders like Prime Minister Modi himself, along with Home Minister Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh and others hold meetings with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP’s assembly incharges and district chiefs.
The recent inauguration of Jewar’s International Airport, touted to be the biggest in Asia, saw the UP Chief Minister use the ‘ganna vs jinnah’ jibe ahead of the election. The event was attended by PM Modi who also took the opportunity to praise Deputy UP CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.
In the last few days, a new video has gone viral on Twitter, which shows UP CM Yogi Adityanath and others sitting on a stage when he is approached by KP Maurya. In the video, it appears that he spoke to the UP CM and he was told to sit somewhere behind the CM. It is being shared by multiple users claiming to be an example of strained relations between the UP CM and deputy CM and also alleges his ill treatment by the CM. Some users also allege that he is treated poorly because of his caste.
The UP COngress’ twitter handle went a step further to invoke an earlier controversy, to claim that KP Maurya is constantly ill treated by the UP CM .
The incident in question is from earlier this year, when a photograph of KP Maurya sitting on a stool at an event, besides other BJP ministers and members sitting on chairs had gone viral, leading to a barrage of allegations of his “ill treatment due to caste bias” from the opposition. Leaders like I.P. Singh of the Samajwadi Party tweeted saying “Keshav Prasad must change his name to Stool Prasad.”
While investigating this video being shared by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the name of humiliating Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya by driving him from the stage, we searched the key-frames of the video on Google, but found no concrete Information.
During the investigation, it was found that journalist Manish Pandey, Resident Editor of Knewsindia has tweeted the viral video, describing it to be from a program in Gorakhpur held on 29th November 2021 , and has described the person who faced the displeasure of Chief Minister Yogi as BJP leader Vibhrat Chand Kaushik.
On doing a Google search with the help of some other keywords, we also found an article published by The Lucknow Express on December 1, 2021, in which Chief Minister Yogi has spoken of reprimanding the Vice President of the State Youth Welfare Council, Vibhrat Chand Kaushik.
Apart from this, we also received a video report published by Hindustan Live on 30th November, 2021, in which the viral video is present. Due to the better quality of the video, it is clear that the Deputy Chief Minister KP Maurya is not present in the video but rather it is Vibhrat Chand Kaushik, Vice President of the State Youth Welfare Council.
Misleading claim shared by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the name of humiliating Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya by driving him away from the stage.
On the official YouTube channel of the Uttar Pradesh government, we found the full video of the said program, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Basgaon MP Kamlesh Paswan, MLA Vimlesh Paswan and other leaders along with Vibhrat Chand Kaushik can be seen. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya was not present anywhere in this entire program.
Some pictures of the said program have also been shared by Vibhrat Chand Kaushik on his Facebook profile.
Thus, in our investigation, it becomes clear that this claim being shared by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the name of humiliating Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya by driving him away from the stage is misleading. In fact, KP Maurya was not present in the program of which this claim is being shared by sharing the video.
