The new year has just begun, and while many are looking forward to 2022 with new hopes, aspirations, misinformation & false narratives continue to originate and spread at their usual speed.
From an two week old video of youth raising pro-Khalistan slogans falsely linked to PM Modi’s recent Punjab visit, to another video from Mexico shared claiming to show the brutal killing of RSS worker in Kerala, and Aryan Khan being falsely accused of urinating openly at the airport, the first week of 2022 had a playdate with misinformation. A viral video claiming to show Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan urinating openly at an airport is doing the rounds on social media platforms. Newschecker has found out that the viral video is misleading as it dates back from 2012 and shows Twilight actor Bronson Pelletier urinating at the Los Angeles airport. Read more here.
A day after PM Modi’s Ferozepur rally was cancelled over an alleged security breach, several social media users shared a video of young men in Sikh turbans, riding motorbikes, shouting ‘Khalistan Zindabad’. A video claiming to show a Pakistan MP dancing to a remix of Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon’s original famous number ‘tip tip barsa paani’ is being shared widely on Twitter. Newschecker has found that the man in question is not the Pakistani MP dancing but a famous choreographer. Read more here.
Several social media users and news channels shared images showing SAD MLA Bikramjit Singh Majithia in Golden Temple. Punjab Police is on a look out for Majithia who is currently booked under the NDPS Act. Newschecker has revealed that the image is actually from January 2021 and was wrongly reported as January 2022.
