Fact Check
Last week Indian social media witnessed a majority of misleading claims related to the ongoing farmers’ protests and the Kisan tractor parade on Republic Day. Amid this BJP published a graphic poster on their social media falsely showing India’s economy had an 8% growth as per IMF’s 2020 estimates. We also debunked a manipulated video clip targetting Nepal’s PM Oli and PM Modi.

As per IMF’s January 2021 World Economic Outlook report, India’s 2020 GDP estimates show an 8 per cent (%) contraction. The BJP in their Twitter and Facebook’s posts missed adding a negative sign before “8” therefore, misleading their audience.

he claim in regards to 200 Delhi police personnel resigning in support of the farmers is false. Delhi police PRO Anil Mittal said no Delhi Police personnel has resigned nor is any employee associated with the farmers’ protests.

In an interview with Sudhir Chaudhary, PM Oli said, “when I got into politics, some of them weren’t even born, in reference to the young presidents & prime ministers in the world.

The claim is misleading since the image in context has been online since at least 2013 and therefore, not related to the ongoing farmers’ protest or the tractor parade on Republic Day.
