सोशल मीडिया पर एक वीडियो शेयर कर यह दावा किया गया कि अफगानिस्तान और इराक में लड़ने वाले 40000 अमेरिकी सैनिकों ने इस्तीफा दिया.
अमेरिका ने साल 2001 में अफ़ग़ानिस्तान पर अपना आधिपत्य जताना शुरू किया था. 2001 में ही वर्ल्ड ट्रेड सेंटर पर हमले के बाद, अमेरिका ने अफ़ग़ानिस्तान और पाकिस्तान में स्थापित आतंकी ठिकानों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई शुरू की थी.
हालांकि, इस दौरान भी कई अमेरिकी सैनिकों ने युद्ध को पागलपन बताते हुए निर्दोष नागरिकों को मारने से इनकार कर दिया था. इसके बावजूद भी अमेरिकी सेना ने अफ़ग़ानिस्तान में डेरा जमाये रखा था जो कि अफ़ग़ानिस्तान पर तालिबान के कब्जे के बाद खत्म हो गया.
इसी क्रम में, सोशल मीडिया पर एक वीडियो शेयर कर यह दावा किया गया कि अफगानिस्तान और इराक में लड़ने वाले 40000 अमेरिकी सैनिकों ने इस्तीफा दे दिया है.

‘अफगानिस्तान और इराक में लड़ने वाले 40000 अमेरिकी सैनिकों ने इस्तीफा दिया’ दावे के साथ शेयर किये जा रहे इस वीडियो की पड़ताल के लिए, हमने वीडियो को की-फ्रेम्स में बांटा. और एक कीफ्रेम को गूगल रिवर्स किया। इस पूरी प्रक्रिया में हमें वीडियो से जुड़ी कोई ठोस जानकारी प्राप्त नहीं हुई.
वायरल वीडियो की पड़ताल के दौरान, वीडियो के एक कोने में लगे ‘DEMOCRACYNOW.ORG’ का वॉटरमार्क दिखा. वीडियो में मौजूद अन्य जानकारियों की सहायता से हमने ‘democracy now american soldiers afghanistan iraq’ कीवर्ड्स को यूट्यूब पर ढूंढा. इस दौरान हमें Democracy Now द्वारा लगभग 9 वर्ष पूर्व प्रकाशित एक वीडियो प्राप्त हुआ.
Democracy Now द्वारा 21 मई, 2012 को ‘”No NATO, No War”: U.S. Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Return War Medals at NATO Summit’ टाइटल के साथ प्रकाशित किये गए इस वीडियो में, 5 मिनट 04 सेकंड के बाद वायरल वीडियो में दिख रहे सैनिकों को अपनी बात कहने के बाद मेडल एवं अन्य सैन्य सम्मानों को वापस करने की घोषणा करते हुए देखा जा सकता है.
“40000 us soldiers left service 2012 democracy now” कीवर्ड्स को गूगल पर ढूंढने के बाद हमें Democracy Now द्वारा 21 मई, 2012 को प्रकाशित एक लेख प्राप्त हुआ, जिसमें इन अमेरिकी सैनिकों के बातचीत की पूरी ट्रांसक्रिप्ट भी मौजूद है. लेख के एक अंश के अनुसार, “We broadcast from Chicago, site of the largest NATO summit in the organization’s six-decade history. On Sunday, veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, as well as members of Afghans for Peace, led a peace march of thousands of people. Iraq Veterans Against the War held a ceremony where nearly 50 veterans discarded their war medals by hurling them down the street in the direction of the NATO summit. We hear the soldiers’ voices as they return their medals one by one from the stage. “I’m here to return my Global War on Terror Service Medal in solidarity with the people of Iraq and the people of Afghanistan,” said Jason Hurd, a former combat medic who spent 10 years in the U.S. Army. “I am deeply sorry for the destruction that we have caused in those countries and around the globe.”
