A fifteen-second-long-video allegedly showing the devotees participating in the Mahakumbh, which is currently underway in Prayagraj, throwing slippers at army personnel is being widely shared on social media platforms.
Multiple users who shared the video alleged, “In Kumbh, nationalists and Sanatani people threw slippers at army men! Had they been Muslims, this would have been the news on all government media channels today, but perhaps all this is allowed to people of this religion. (translated from Hindi via Google)”

Fact Check/Verification
A Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip led us to an Instagram post by @travelwithaashi21, dated November 17, 2024. Carrying a longer version of the viral clip, it stated, “Puspa 2 trailer Launch event in Patna gandhi maidan 2024.”

The longer version of the video was also shared on YouTube by @DjManjeshBabuLalanchak in November 2024 to show the situation during the trailer launch of Pushpa 2 in Patna.
We were also able to spot a red flag with “05 Dec”, the official release date of the Allu Arjun-starrer, written on it in the longer version of the video.

Following this, we looked up keywords “Pushpa 2,” “Patna,” “trailer launch” and “ruckus” on Google, which yielded multiple reports from November 2024 detailing the incident.

“Chaos erupted in Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan on Sunday (November 17, 2024), where a massive crowd turned up to catch a glimpse of actors Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna who were in the city for the promotion of their upcoming film Pushpa 2: The Rule. A section of the people who gathered at the venue crossed barricades and hurled shoes and sleepers when they were prevented from going close to the stars,” reported PTI.

On comparing the keyframes of the viral clip with visuals of the incident shared by multiple news outlets, we could conclude that they depict the same incident.

Conclusion
Hence, the viral posts alleging that Mahakumbh devotees threw slippers at army personnel were found to be false.
