सोशल मीडिया पर एक वीडियो शेयर कर यह दावा किया गया कि स्मृति ईरानी ने देवी दुर्गा का अपमान किया है.

बीते 26 सितंबर से शारदीय नवरात्रि की शुरुआत हो चुकी है. नवरात्रि के दौरान हिन्दू समुदाय के लोग देवी दुर्गा के नौ रुपों की पूजा करते हैं. स्मृति ईरानी का देवी दुर्गा और महिषासुर को लेकर संसद में दिया गया एक बयान अक्सर नवरात्रि के दौरान वायरल होता रहता है. पूर्व में Newschecker ने 3 अक्टूबर, 2019 को वायरल दावे का फैक्ट चेक किया था. हमारी पड़ताल के दौरान हमें भारतीय जनता पार्टी के आधिकारिक यूट्यूब चैनल द्वारा 24 फरवरी, 2016 को अपलोड किए गए एक वीडियो से जानकारी मिली कि यह वीडियो साल 2016 का है, जब तत्कालीन मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री स्मृति ईरानी ने लोकसभा में छात्र रोहित वेमुला की आत्महत्या तथा जेएनयू विवाद को लेकर विपक्षी सदस्यों के सवालों का जवाब दिया था.
वीडियो में जेएनयू परिसर के अंदर महिषासुर शहादत दिवस मनाने की निंदा करते हुए स्मृति ईरानी एक पोस्टर का जिक्र करती हैं, जिसमे हिन्दू देवी दुर्गा के लिए अपमानजनक शब्दों का इस्तेमाल किया गया है. आगे 31 मिनट 44 सेकंड के बाद इसी पोस्टर को पढ़ते हुए स्मृति ईरानी कहती हैं कि, “… And may my God forgive me… for reading this. Durga Puja is the most controversial racial festival, where a fair skinned beautiful goddess Durga is depicted brutally killing a dark-skinned native called Mahishasur. Mahishasur, a brave self-respecting leader… tricked into marriage by Aryans. They hired a sex worker called Durga… who enticed Mahishasur into marriage and killed him after nine nights of honeymooning during sleep… Freedom of speech, ladies and gentleman… Who wants to have this discussion… on the streets of Kolkata… Weather Rahul Gandhi will stand for this freedom… I want to know… (हिंदी अनुवाद: मेरा भगवान मुझे यह पढ़ने के लिए क्षमा करे. दुर्गा पूजा सर्वाधिक विवादित नस्लवादी त्यौहार है, जिसमे गोरे रंग वाली सुंदर देवी दुर्गा को काले रंग के मूलनिवासी महिषासुर को निर्ममतापूर्वक मारते हुए दिखाया जाता है. महिषासुर आत्मसम्मान से भरा नेता है, जिसकी धोखे से आर्यों से शादी करवा दी गई. उन्होंने वेश्यालय में काम करने वाली दुर्गा नामक स्त्री को इस काम के लिए पैसे दिए… जिसने महिषासुर को झांसे में रखकर उससे शादी की और फिर 9 दिनों के सुहागरात के बाद उसकी हत्या कर दी. साथियों यह है विचारों की अभिव्यक्ति… (पश्चिम बंगाल से आए सांसदों विपक्षी सदस्यों की तरफ ईशारा करके) मैं जानना चाहती हूं कि कोलकाता की सड़कों पर ऐसी बहस कौन चाहता है? मैं जानना चाहती हूं कि क्या राहुल गांधी इस स्वतंत्रता का समर्थन करते हैं?”
इस प्रकार हमारी पड़ताल में यह बात साफ हो जाती है कि स्मृति ईरानी द्वारा देवी दुर्गा का अपमान के नाम पर शेयर किया जा रहा यह दावा भ्रामक है. असल में स्मृति ईरानी लोकसभा में छात्र रोहित वेमुला की आत्महत्या तथा जेएनयू विवाद को लेकर विपक्षी सदस्यों के सवालों के जवाब देते समय जेएनयू में लगे एक विवादित पोस्टर के ऊपर लिखी गई बातें पढ़ रही थी. इसी हिस्से को शेयर कर भ्रम फैलाया जा रहा है.
